The Chhat festival mostly celebrated in Taria region of Nepal is concluded today after offering Argha to the rising sun. This festival was started from in 18th of November. In this occasion, people worship Sun with the assumption of God.
This festival starts from Kartik Shukla Chaturthi to Kartik Shukla Saptami as per the lunar calendar. People worship the Sun during the rising and setting of the Sun by offering PRASAD. The Sun is taken as God of energy and life-force. Devotees worshipped Sun during Chhath to promote well-being and prosperity. During these days, the people worship the Sun from banks of rivers, lakes, ponds and other water sources. In Kathmandu Valley, there is someplace to celebrate Chhat e.g. Ranipokhari, Kamalpokhari, Gaurighat, Kupondole. Today, devotees have concluded Chhat festival by offering argha to the rising sun.
As per the tradition, devotees performed rituals and offered argha to the setting sun on Friday and concluded it by offering argha to the rising sun today. The myth says that five Pandavas with Draupadi had worshipped the sun wishing for success during their 14 years of exile. As per the Mahabharat, they had taken a shelter at the palace of King Virata during their last year of exile. It is believed that fasting observed during this festival would relieve people of trouble and miseries and the observer is blessed with good fortune.
